Living in the Age of Me

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

The pace of life seems to have increased exponentially from the time I was a child. As a society, we have become a very impatient culture. It is most evident when driving — watching car after car do anything to get in front of just one more car, like a few seconds is going to make that much of a difference. I never have been able to figure out why people can’t just wait their turn like everyone else. At the stores these days, the majority of people are just downright apathetic and rude. While the items I purchase are being checked out, I have seen so many customers just stand at the end of the belt with their arms crossed and an angry glare on their face. Some even tap their foot impatiently. I just don’t get it. I don’t remember it being so bad when I was younger. People would actually strike up a conversation and talk to each other in the store while waiting in line. The world was a happier place then. People would also gladly allow you to merge onto the highway or would wave you on at an intersection. Not anymore. We are living in the age of me. Few people truly care about anyone else but themselves and it is a sad testament. Though I long for yesteryear and hope things will change back to the way they were, I am not holding out much hope. Our society is too far gone down the path of immorality, ignorance and hate.

Website and Store Almost Done!

Monday, October 4th, 2010

It’s Monday and I worked all weekend to get the new website at least to the point I can publish and advertise it to friends, fans, and search engines. It doesn’t have as much as I would like and could use a few more bells and whistles, but it at least conveys the information and gives fans a way to contact me. I would like to get back to reading and focusing on my writing. Arbiters of Justice (tentative title) is calling my name! Of course, it didn’t help that when I was building the store section of the website that I saw certain authors had dozens of published books and were only in their late 40′s to early 50′s. I really need to get busy if I am going to get there by the time I reach their age. One of my favorite authors, Dean Koontz, didn’t start publishing until his late 30′s, so I don’t think I am too far behind the curve but there is definitely a lot of work to be done. If only I could dedicate my time to writing instead of working a full-time job, but alas it wasn’t meant to be that way.

I am determined to get Arbiters of Justice done by April or May 2011 so that I can have it ready to take with me should I get to finally go to the Hawaii Writers Conference next August or September. It has been a goal of mine for several years to go and I am more determined than ever to make it happen this year. I want to be sure to make it while James Rollins is still there to give workshops. I have been communicating with him for a few years but would really like to meet him in person.

Well faithful reader, I am off to work. Later I will put a few finishing touches on the store and get the new site advertised, and then its back to writing! Mark my words, I will finish at least one book in 2011 and have it published. You have been patient enough and I assure you that your wait is almost over!

Cheers!
